Trail crosses Three Creek/Jarbidge Rd just before descending into the canyon to Murphy Hot Springs, ID.

Mile 65 - Bruneau Canyon Overlook

Trailhead and parking with no services. Access from Bruneau, ID via the Clover Three Creeks Rd.

Mile 90 - Hammett, ID

Small town with limited services. Two small convenience stores with minimal selection. Glenns Ferry, ID to the East. Mountain Home, ID to the West..

Mile 126 - Highway 20

Fairfield, ID to the East. Mountain Home, ID to the West.

A lone orange pole marks the Nevada Border and the Southern terminus of the ICT a few miles outside of Murphy Hotsprings. The trail follows ranching roads and two track along the ridge of the Jarbidge and Bruneau Canyons across a vast and desolate sagebrush desert. Pronghorn and cattle dot the arid landscape where water and shade are scarce.

This section of trail is extremely remote and precautions should be taken to ensure your safe travel. Avoid the extreme summer heat where temperatures can easily climb above 100 degrees. Access to the Bruneau and Jarbidge Rivers is extremely limited due to their location at the bottom of steep, shear canyons. Water resupplies must be meticulously planned, as all natural water sources will run dry by late summer. This makes for a 90 mile stretch of trail with only one possible (though likely green and stagnant) water source at Winter Camp. Access to the trail requires a four-wheel drive, high clearance vehicle so water caching can be difficult, though necessary.

The Bruneau-Jarbidge Rivers Wilderness is part of the 515,000 acre Owyhee Canyonlands Wilderness Areas signed into law in 2009. The trail skirts along the edge of the wilderness as it follows the river canyons, cutting NE at the Bruneau Canyon overlook through the Saylor Creek Air Force Bombing Range. You will hear and see jets from near by Mountain Home Air Force Base flying in formation overhead.

Leaving the large part of the desert behind, the trail emerges onto Highway 78 near the Snake River. A few miles down the highway is the small farming town of Hammett which has a small store but little in the way of services.

After crossing I-84 the trail climbs up out of the Snake River Plain and into the Bennett Hills. As you pass the Elma Goodman Mountain Bluebird trail, keep an eye out for the Idaho state bird inhabiting the 150 nearby nesting boxes. You will also begin to find more reliable water sources as you ascend into the hills.

After crossing the Bennett Hills, the trail emerges on Highway 20 near Cat Creek Summit. The small town of Fairfield is several miles east and Mountain Home, with major services is to the west.
